Date Listed: 31/07/2008 Hi! My name is Madana Harrop and I am student Midwife in my final year studying at the Australian Catholic University. As part of our program requirements, we are to become actively involved in following women through pregnancy, from the antenatal to postnatal period, supporting women in all aspects of their experience and being an advocate through pregnancy, birth and the early postnatal period. I am seeking women in the Melbourne area who would like to be involved in this potentially exciting experience! Due to the nature of requirements, less than 35 weeks is a must, or about mid way if you feel comfortable! I will be there as a support person and someone to give you information if you require it, but also as a learning experience for me. Learning about a woman's experience of pregnancy and birth is vital to the study of becoming a midwife. If you are comfortable and willing, I would also like to be part of your birthing experience and maybe even play an active part in it (again, if you are comfortable with me and the idea itself, this is not a requirement of the program and if not it is still a valuable learning experience). The benifits for women who participate in the follow through journey will be a one on one supportive relationship, which is proven by research to be beneficial in positive pregnancy and birthing outcomes. The FTJ allows women to access information and have an extra support person during the times of pregnancy and early parenting. If you are interested I will be in contact with you and set up a first meeting which includes the pregnant woman, myself and my mentor. My mentor is a qualified, experienced midwife who guides me in my studies and meets the women to sign them up for the program to make it official. I would love to hear from all women who are interested, no matter the model of maternity care- public, private, homebirth. If you choose to be a part of the FTJ your model of care is not affected. Please understand that I will not attempt to replace your chosen carer/midwife/health professional, my main focus will be in providing extra support to you and your family, empowering you with extra information and care during your pregnancy. If you feel you would like to speak with someone at the university about the progam before you make a decision, Dr. Colleen Rolls can be contacted on 9953 3191 for any further information.
If you feel you would be interested, please contact me via email at madanahw@hotmail.com or on my mobile 0421 658 976 with any questions or more information. |
