“Meditation is our medicine, our marvellous teacher, our navigator and protector.”
Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden
A new series of classes, Introduction to Buddhist Psychology and Meditation, will begin at the Tibetan Buddhist Society, Melbourne at 1.30 p.m. on Sunday 21 June 2009.
Anyone wanting to learn to meditate, develop their potential for a more positive experience of life, and understand Buddhist psychology and philosophy will find this a great way to start their journey.
Introduction to Buddhist Psychology and Meditation offers guided meditations and practical instructions on how to create a happier and more meaningful life based on methods taught by Buddhist meditation masters such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The course is based on the book Meditations on the Path to Enlightenment, composed by the Spiritual Leader and Founder of the Tibetan Buddhist Society, Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden. It will be led by Trevor Kitcher, a Director of the Society and a regular teacher.
In times of change and uncertainty, learning to deal with stress and unhappiness, and developing inner strength are more important than ever. By applying these teachings to our daily lives we can transform our experience and relate to situations in a more wholesome and beneficial way.
According to Buddhism our nature is to be compassionate, contented and positive, and this course teaches methods for developing these innate qualities. Topics covered include basic Buddhist teachings on compassion, karma, enlightenment, impermanence, ethics, nirvana and concentration.
Each class includes a teaching, guided meditation session and the opportunity to ask questions, followed by afternoon tea. Classes are held in the beautiful traditional Tibetan temple and finish at 3 p.m.. There is a facility charge of $10 per class, which goes towards support of the temple. All welcome.
The Peaceful Land of Joy Meditation Centre is just 30 minutes from the Melbourne CBD, at 1425 Mickleham Road, Yuroke (access via Cookes Road – Melways reference 385 J8).
