Art Classes
Foundation Drawing and Painting Class
The Foundation Drawing and Painting class is an introductory class aimed at exploring the basic elements of drawing and painting. It will be a reasonably structured class with exercises aimed at building confidence, developing observational and analytical skills, practical techniques, and material exploration. Moving from black and white to colour, students will explore colour theory, composition, painting techniques and materials. There will be one life drawing session within the term to introduce and explore figure drawing and to build on other skills. Classes are held at The Substation, Newport in a relaxed environment and aim to provide a basic knowledge to students who wish to pursue their work further, and possibly go on to join a mentored art group.
Mentored Art Class
The mentored class has been developed to flow on from the Foundation Drawing and Painting class and for those with some previous experience. There will be an emphasis on building confidence, learning more about techniques, exploration of materials and an ongoing focus on the development of your own individual direction and project. The mentored group will be less structured than the foundation classes and you will be able to work at your own pace with your particular needs being addressed via direct tutoring, rather than group exercises. There may also be an opportunity in the future for the group to exhibit work at the Substation if you and other students are interested.
Classes will be held at The Substation Art Centre in Newport, Melbourne. The Tutor is Erika Gofton, a professional exhibiting artist. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and a Diploma of Education in Visual Arts.
